Desert X Palm Springs Photoshoot
Ashley & David:
Sunrise Couple’s Shoot at Desert X in Palm Springs
Every now and then, I come across a location that immediately sparks an idea — and that’s exactly what happened when I saw one of the Desert X installations out in Palm Springs. Something about the architecture, the way it played with space, and how it sat in the desert landscape felt fresh and inspiring.
Even though this wasn’t technically an engagement session (Ashley and David are already married), it had that kind of energy — relaxed, intimate, and full of quiet moments that just felt honest. They were fully present with each other, which is always the best thing you can bring to a shoot.
The installation itself was all white — no mirrors, no wild colors — just clean, flowing forms that curved and wrapped like waves frozen in place. It was minimalist in the best way, especially with the soft desert light hitting it as the sun came up over the mountains. We had that kind of light photographers dream about — soft, golden, and gone in a blink — and it made everything feel even more surreal.
Palm Springs is always a favorite for shoots like this. There’s something about the combination of modern architecture, natural textures, and wide open skies that gives you space to breathe and experiment. Whether you’re in the heart of the city or a little off the beaten path, the landscape always shows up for you.
Ashley is also a florist (she owns Esprit Floral Co., definitely worth checking out), and even though we didn’t bring florals into this shoot, you can feel her creative eye in how she moved through the space — grounded, calm, and with an effortless kind of style that made everything feel natural.
Honestly, this session was a reminder that you don’t always need a big reason to document your connection. Sometimes the best stories come from slowing down, getting outside, and just making space to be seen.
