Homeslice + Amy's Ice Cream Date Night Engagement Photos on South Congress in Austin, Texas
South Congress, Homeslice Pizza, Amy’s Ice Cream, The Austin Hotel, and the “I Love You So Much” Wall in Austin, Texas
During the pandemic of 2020, I briefly moved to Austin, Texas for a Production Photography job, where I met Molly. Instantly, Molly became known to me as the single most sunny person I have ever met, with such an intensity of compassion and depth to meet and know people wherever they were and celebrate them through and through. Molly makes everyone around her feel seen and is to this day the most genuine person I have ever encountered. Molly even has her own business and blog, Molly On The Move, that is as colorful as her personality! Knowing her while I was in Austin, Texas was such a blessing, and keeping her as a friend now that I am back in California is the sweetest gift.
The day I got the text asking what I was doing next week, sent with a photo of the most beautiful rose gold, pink stone’d engagement ring attached to the text, I screamed a little and had a flight booked for the next week. Molly and Dom chose to plan their wedding very quickly with Covid, putting together every last detail and plan in 5 weeks! One thing was absolutely certain, Molly + Dom absolutely wanted to go to Homeslice Pizza on South Congress for their engagement photos.
South Congress is arguably one of the most charming streets in Austin, Texas. It is hip, trendy, full of local boutiques, favorite chains, and buskers performing street music on every corner in the summer season. Wanting their engagement photos to feel like they captured the feeling of sharing a date night together on SoCo, Molly and Dom ordered pizza by the slice at Homeslice Pizza, found an open red and white picnic table, and sat down to enjoy one of the finest dinners Austin has to offer together. Molly with a Homeslice slice of cheese, and Dom with a Homeslice slice of pepperoni, and a classic bottled coke, the two of them fed one another, enjoyed their own pizza, and stole kisses between cheesy bites. As they finished their crusts and cola, they danced quickly under the Homeslice neon sign featuring a pizza maker, before heading down SoCo to their next destination: Amy’s Ice Cream.
Amy’s Ice Cream is a cute and eclectic Ice Cream shop across the street from the famous Austin Motel with a reputation for having intriguing flavors always on rotation. With specialty flavors, vegan, non-dairy, and yogurt options, there is something for everyone. Molly and Dom shared a waffle cone of cake batter and sprinkles ice cream. Together they sat on the curb sharing their Amy’s Ice Cream while the line died down, and then grabbed a seat on the bench in front of their favorite ice cream shop! As they finished their ice cream, the neon lights at the Austin Motel were turning on as the evening drew near, and we headed across the street for a quick moment to steal some kisses under the rainbow neon ceiling of their driveway!
As a final stop under the thunderstorm sky that comes every spring in Austin, Texas, Dom gave Molly piggy back rides to and around the iconic green and red “I love you so much” mural featured on the wall of Jo’s Coffee. Dom, coming from the photo and video world himself, has a vision of them in the street moving with this iconic location as the focal point. As all the light faded from the sky, we walked back up SoCo to our car, listening to the live music and talking about all the beautiful details for their wedding, just 4 weeks later in Dallas, Texas! It was the most perfect engagement session that felt so special, not only to be capturing the love of a dear friend, but also a special place and memory for a couple so dearly sweet. Without further ado, enjoy a date night engagement session down South Congress with Molly + Dom in Austin, Texas! I can’t wait for your wedding soon!
