Moody Beach Couple’s Photos that Feel Like the PNW in California
Joshua and Savannah met me in my favorite grassy dunes in Morro Bay, on the Central Coast of California, at sunrise this August for a destination couple’s shoot. Joshua was very interested in the idea of making the session feel as moody as possible, to match their vibe, personality, and aesthetics. Wanting to make their vision come true and create some photographs they would love, we knew we would need to take full advantage of the dim morning light and the foggy marine layer that is always around the Morro Bay Harbor in the early morning hours. Knowing that, at 6:30am, we drove through the sleepy town and past the Embarcadero to the coast for these photos, well before the surfers found their way to the waves and the lifeguards took their spots at their towers on the beach.
I was in love with Joshua and Savannah’s style! They both rocked wide brimmed hats and Savannah wore the most fabulous denim bell-bottoms you ever saw. Their edgy style matched the morning mist perfectly! Both wore Dr Martens - Joshua some classic Dr boots and Savannah some strappy Dr Marten sandals. We walked around the dunes for a while before running along the beach as the morning started to wake up.
One of my favorite things about this morning wasn’t the photos we took, but learning all about Joshua and Savannah’s business! The two of them own and operate a couture dessert and cocktail mobile catering company! Their company, Haute Sugar Co, has a number of different mobile bars, some as pop up stations and others built into restored vintage cars and vans, that you can hire to come to your events. As a wedding and event photographer, meeting these two and learning about their company was incredible. Could you image having a cotton candy truck at your event?! I cannot wait to recommend Haute Sugar Co to all future brides and grooms looking for an interesting way to add a little extra flare to their event experience!
